THE IMPACT OF EXTRAORDINARY FACULTY hen Nancy Noesen Murray ‘88 was a student at UW-Stout she was selected to be a student representative on the Fashion Merchandising (now Retail Merchandising and Management) advisory board. As part of her service, she served on a hiring committee for a new faculty position. Little did she know that the person she helped to hire would soon become a beloved professor, a colleague, a mentor and friend. During her 14 years at UW-Stout, Dr. Murray also made memorable impressions on her students through engaging classes, advising the Stout Retail Association and connecting her students directly to key people in the retail world through professional events. Her dedication and passion for her students didn’t go unnoticed. In 2014, students in the Stout Retail Association decided to honor Dr. Murray for her commitment and dedication to her students with an honorary scholarship. In only 8 years,

Murray’s students, alumni and industry partners have grown the Dr. Nancy Murray Retail Merchandising and Management Scholarship to an astonishing $27,058. For Murray, it is rewarding to know that she has truly impacted the lives of her students and that the relationship she has formed with them live on long after graduation. For the members of the Stout Retail Association and their fellow retail merchandising and management students and alumni, they take pride in paying it forward and investing in the next generation of Retail Merchandising and Management students at UW-Stout.

demeanor and it was that character that kept Dr. Badenoch and his methodologies and teachings on Nancy’s mind as she moved through 10 years of her retail career. In 1999, after a strong suggestion to return to UW-Stout from a different former instructor (Wray Lamb), Nancy Murray began her career with UW-Stout, becoming a colleague with some of her former professors in the Business department including Badenoch. Dr. Badenoch retired in 2003, but he and Nancy stayed in contact via email. He encouraged her to earn her doctorate degree and continued to mentor her through her academic career until his passing in 2012. At that time, Nancy felt compelled to honor his legacy by establishing a scholarship.
