Honors College Registration Guide

Colloquium

Engagement

Participate

Each semester we will gather for a lively discussion about our common book. You’ll eat soup, converse with friends, tackle subjects you might not have even thought about before.

Every semester we nudge you to explore something new. Choose at least one interesting activity from our Engagement Event calendar, which may include film screenings, plays, outdoor adventures, and other events.

To be an active participant in the Honors College, we ask you to do two things each semester: participate in the Colloquium and attend an Engagement Event. That’s it. You are encouraged to attend more events, study and socialize in the Honors Lounge, live in the Honors dorm, and get everything out of your Honors experience. As an active participant, you will not only be part of a vibrant community, but you will also be eligible to receive priority registration.

Courses

Projects

Prior Learning This is your opportunity to pursue almost any question or interest. Dive deeper. Get more hands on. Do something fun. Are you coming to Stout having already earned college credits? You may be eligible for 1–3 Prior Learning Points. Come chat with our Honors Advisor or Director when you come to campus in the fall. During your time here, you will complete at least one independent Honors project.

Our courses let you explore a variety of subjects, alongside other curious Honors students. Our courses are not harder, but they are more engaging. Our Honors instructors employ creative ways to help you learn.

Graduate

To complete the program and become a Honors College graduate, you need to be an active participant and collect eight Honors Points. These points are earned through Honors Courses, Honors Projects, Partner Programs, and Prior Learning. You can earn these points throughout all of your years at Stout. We will help you build a flexible path to that finish line. You will begin the journey by signing up for Honors Courses today! Each Honors Course will earn you one Honors Point.

Partner Programs

If you participate in Stoutward Bound, the McNair Scholars Program, JUMPSTART: Scotland, or any study abroad experience, we will credit you with an Honors Point for that experience.
