Resident Hall Handbook

UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY You may not enter a residence hall room or suite without authorization. This includes, but is not limited to, gaining a temporary room key or ID by deceit, using force to gain access to a room, or using a key or ID that is lost or stolen. VANDALISM/DAMAGE TO PROPERTY Students may not deface, damage, and/or destroy University property or property belonging to another resident or guest through either deliberate action or negligence. WEAPONS Weapons, including decorative or concealed weapons, may not be brought into the residence halls. Weapons are defined as firearms, paintball guns, bows and arrows, electric weapons such as tasers and stun guns, non-kitchen knives with a blade longer than 4 inches, blowguns, ammunition, airsoft guns, and toy guns.

• No person may climb or walk on the structure or roof of any residence hall, recycling centers or bike lockers. • Tampering with elevators is not permitted, nor is any action that may damage the proper functioning of the elevator, including over-crowding the elevator. • Residents and/or their guests may not utilize common areas of the residence hall for sleeping. SCREENS & WINDOWS Screens and windows may not be removed. SHARED RESPONSIBILITY Residents are responsible for being aware of what is occurring in a room or space that they are in. Regardless of whether or not they are directly engaging in a policy violation, all students may share responsibility for that violation and are subject to sanctions for that violation. THEFT No person may intentionally take, retain or use another individual’s property without their consent. Unauthorized possession of any University Housing property is considered theft. Wisconsin State Law prohibits the possession of traffic or street signs, and therefore, they are not permitted in residence halls. TRESPASSING Residence halls are open to residents of the halls and their invited guests. Unauthorized individuals found to be in the residence halls may be subject to prosecution for trespassing. Students banned from certain buildings as part of a conduct process and then found to be in a banned building may be in violation of the trespassing policy.
