RESIDENCE HALL POLICIES

POSTING OF SIGNS Students may not post signs anywhere inside or outside of the residence halls without prior approval from University Housing. Furthermore, materials placed on the public side of room doors must be in compliance with all UW System, UW-Stout and University Housing policies. No items may be adhered to or displayed in windows. The only items that may be in a win dow are lights around the perimeter, plants on the window sill, or a box fan. You will be asked to remove any other materials by University Housing staff. QUIET & COURTESY HOURS Courtesy hours are in effect 24 hours a day and residents and their guests are asked to be con siderate and respectful of others at all times. Residents may be asked to remove sound-pro ducing equipment which causes noise disruption. Students should refrain from door slamming and shouting. Noise should never be at a level that it can be heard more than two doors away during the following times: Sunday — Thursday: 10:00p.m. – 9:00a.m. Friday — Saturday: Midnight – 10:00a.m. During final exams, quiet hours are extended in order to minimize disruptions during the exam period. Information will be shared prior to exam weeks regarding extended quiet hours.

RESTROOM FACILITIES Individuals, both residents and guests, should use bathrooms that correspond to their sex or gender identity, depending on which option they feel is safer, or utilize bathrooms that are desig nated all gender, gender neutral, or gender-inclusive. SAFETY • Playing sports, skating, rollerblading, biking or using any type of bat, ball, stick or other similar objects is not allowed within the residence halls. • Throwing, dropping, kicking, propelling or projecting any object (e.g., bottle, can, container, snowballs, and liquids) in, from, or at the residence halls is prohibited. • No person may climb or walk on the structure or roof of any residence hall, recycling centers or bike lockers. • Tampering with elevators is not permitted, nor is any action that may damage the proper functioning of the elevator, including over- crowding the elevator. • Residents and/or their guests may not utilize common areas of the residence hall for sleeping.

THEFT No person may intentionally take, retain or use another individual’s property without their con sent. Unauthorized possession of any University Housing property is considered theft. Wisconsin State Law prohibits the possession of traffic or street signs and therefore, they are not permitted in residence halls. TRESPASSING Residence halls are open to residents of the halls and their invited guests. Unauthorized individuals found to be in the residence halls may be subject to prosecution for trespassing. Students banned from certain buildings as part of a conduct pro cess and then found to be in a banned building may be in violation of the trespassing policy. UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY You may not enter a residence hall room or suite without authorization. This includes, but is not limited to, gaining a temporary room key or ID by deceit, using force to gain access to a room, or using a key or ID that is lost or stolen. VANDALISM/DAMAGE TO PROPERTY Students may not deface, damage, and/or destroy University property or property belong ing to another resident or guest through either deliberate action or negligence. WEAPONS Weapons, including decorative or concealed weapons, may not be brought into the residence halls. Weapons are defined as firearms, paintball guns, bows and arrows, electric weapons such as tasers and stun guns, non-kitchen knives with a blade longer than 4 inches, blowguns, ammuni tion, airsoft guns, and toy guns.

• Students may not remove furniture from the common areas or their rooms, or place personal items in public common areas. • Students may not build or bring in their own bed lofting systems. • For health and safety reasons, check with your Coordinator for an approved time and location before cleaning any game. IDENTIFICATION Residents must be able to produce or retrieve appropriate identification (i.e. UW-Stout ID Card or mobile credential, valid Driver’s License, Military ID, or passport) when asked to do so by a staff member. UW-Stout ID cards may not be altered or used as false identification to impersonate another student. KEYS & LOCKS Students are not permitted to duplicate keys made for any University lock. No one may transfer their University key to an unauthorized person. No one may possess a University key without authorization. Students may not replace, damage, tamper with, or vandalize any University lock, card reader, or security device. PAINTING Students may not paint their rooms, hallways or furniture without approval from University Housing. PETS With the exception of approved service and emotional support animals, animals are not allowed in the residence halls. This includes visit ing pets. The exception is for harmless fish, snails and crustaceans which can live under water for 24 hours or more.

SCREENS & WINDOWS Screens and windows may not be removed.

SHARED RESPONSIBILITY Residents are responsible for being aware of what is occurring in a room or space that they are in. Regardless of whether or not they are directly engaging in a policy violation, all stu dents may share responsibility for that violation and are subject to sanctions for that violation.
