In September, the Stout University Foundation in partnership with UW-Stout, celebrated the public launch of the largest comprehensive campaign in Stout’s history - entitled Pathways Forward . This campaign is designed to raise $35 million for areas across campus within three pathways most critical to providing the best educational experience for our students: student experience, learning environments and program innovation. Within each pathway lies many individual initiatives to accommodate the needs of our students, faculty and the passion of our donors. After several years of planning and a very successful campaign lead gift phase, the Pathways Forward campaign has already achieved over 96% of its $35 million goal. Given this great early response by alumni, friends and industry partners, Chancellor Meyer challenged the Foundation to set an “aspirational goal” of $40 million, which the Stout University Foundation Board of Directors accepted. It is truly an exciting time on campus. The campaign has had remarkable momentum that is transforming passions and pride into new levels of philanthropic support for UW-Stout - Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University. As we move into the final stage of Pathways Forward , our focus is on participation. All gifts make an impact – regardless of size. We believe that if all those who are Stout Proud turned their pride in Stout toward “giving back,” we will reach our campaign goal and help secure a better future for the next generation of Stout students.

THE IMPACT OF EXTRAORDINARY FACULTY hen Nancy Noesen Murray ‘88 was a student at UW-Stout she was selected to be a student representative on the Fashion Merchandising (now Retail Merchandising and Management) advisory board. As part of her service, she served on a hiring committee for a new faculty position. Little did she know that the person she helped to hire would soon become a beloved professor, a colleague, a mentor and friend. He was Dr. Stowe “Tony” Badenoch, who was known for his tough, yet engaging classroom NANCY MURRAY SCHOLARSHIP W

During her 14 years at UW-Stout, Dr. Murray also made memorable impressions on her students through engaging classes, advising the Stout Retail Association and connecting her students directly to key people in the retail world through professional events. Her dedication and passion for her students didn’t go unnoticed. In 2014, students in the Stout Retail Association decided to honor Dr. Murray for her commitment and dedication to her students with an honorary scholarship. In only 8 years,

Murray’s students, alumni and industry partners have grown the Dr. Nancy Murray Retail Merchandising and Management Scholarship to an astonishing $27,058. For Murray, it is rewarding to know that she has truly impacted the lives of her students and that the relationship she has formed with them live on long after graduation. For the members of the Stout Retail Association and their fellow retail merchandising and management students and alumni, they take pride in paying it forward and investing in the next generation of Retail Merchandising and Management students at UW-Stout.

demeanor and it was that character that kept Dr. Badenoch and his methodologies and teachings on Nancy’s mind as she moved through 10 years of her retail career. In 1999, after a strong suggestion to return to UW-Stout from a different former instructor (Wray Lamb), Nancy Murray began her career with UW-Stout, becoming a colleague with some of her former professors in the Business department including Badenoch. Dr. Badenoch retired in 2003, but he and Nancy stayed in contact via email. He encouraged her to earn her doctorate degree and continued to mentor her through her academic career until his passing in 2012. At that time, Nancy felt compelled to honor his legacy by establishing a scholarship.

2017-2018 IN REVIEW REPORT FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR T

his past year has been an enormously successful and record-breaking for the Stout University Foundation in many respects. Regarding fundraising, fiscal year 2017-2018 was amazing with $11,591,346 in gifts to the campaign and total Foundation gift production reaching a new annual record. In addition to fundraising success, the Foundation’s total assets have reached a record level for the second year in a row exceeding $62 million dollars, as of June 30, 2018. The level of growth experienced by the Foundation due to market appreciation of investments has made it possible for the Foundation to build its fundraising capacity and launch the Pathways Forward campaign. As you will receive this Impact Report in 2019, I would like to share I have made the decision to retire as of April 1st after eight years as executive director of the Stout University Foundation. It has been an honor to serve this wonderful nonprofit organization and to help launch the exciting Pathways Forward campaign. I wish to thank the staff of the Foundation, the Board of Directors of the Foundation and the Alumni Association, as well as Chancellor Meyer for their support of my leadership. It has been a truly remarkable career experience and I am deeply thankful for having this opportunity to serve UW-Stout in this meaningful way. In closing, let me express my sincere gratitude and thanks to our partners who have made gifts over this past year and who are participating in the rewarding work of expanding charitable support and creating a culture of philanthropy to ensure the vitality and excellence of the University that we cherish so deeply.
