Annual and Endowed Scholarships

Katie Brophy Lee Memorial Endowed Scholarship Katie Brophy Lee was a senior art major with an emphasis in printmaking when she died in 2007 while being treated for leukemia. In addition to performing in Stout theatre productions, Katie was very passionate about the environment. She pursued this passion by being active in Green Sense as Vice President of the organization; organizing Earth Day events, having her own table at the Earth Day event to educate people about composting and recycling long before it was a part of campus life and designing and planting rain gardens with other students. Her family and friends established this scholarship to honor her and to assist a student who exemplifies Katie’s desire to protect and preserve our environment. The annual award is $1,000. Tailor Larson This scholarship is in memory of Professor Michael Levy who taught English, Children’s Literature and Science Fiction at UW-Stout for 37 years. Professor Levy spent his entire career teaching at UW-Stout and served as Chair of the English Department for 7 years. He was a noted expert on Children’s Young Adult and Science Fiction literature and served as President and Editor of numerous associations and publications over his lifetime. His book reviews and essays on literature numbered in the thousands. He was awarded posthumously the Mythopoeic Scholarship Award in Myth and Fantasy Studies in 2018 and the Children’s Fantasy Literature: An Introduction award in 2017. Throughout his career, he mentored many and was beloved for his kind, level-headed guidance, and wisdom. The annual awards are $1,500. Olivia Harris Katy Liester

John and Myrtle Lifquist Scholarship Rosalind Lifquist, a 1921 UW-Stout graduate, established this unrestricted scholarship in honor of her parents, John and Myrtle Lifquist. Rosalind served in the U.S. Department of Agriculture for many years. She passed away in 1990.
