Swanson Endowed Scholarship The Dr. Robert Swanson Endowed Scholarship was established by family and friends upon his passing in January 2013. Bob served UW-Stout in many capacities, first arriving on campus in 1942 as a seventeen-year-old high school graduate from Superior, WI. After his freshman year, Bob served for three years in the U.S. Army in Germany during WWII and then returned to Stout to finish his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. During this time, he was elected president of the SSA (Stout Student Association) and was a part-time faculty member while attending grad school. After earning his PhD from the University of Minnesota, he progressed at Stout from Instructor to Professor, to Department Head, to Assistant Dean, to Dean of two schools and finally was named Chancellor in 1972, a role he cherished until his retirement in 1988. Bob and his wife Penny were so proud of Stout and making the university a big part of their estate plan recognizes the importance of UW-Stout in their lives. The annual award is $2,400. Ethan Olson
