2021 Scholarship Reception Booklet

George William and Mary Jane Zitelman Endowed Mechanical Engineering Scholarship Born an engineer, circumstances prevented Bill from realizing his dream of attending college until he was 30 years old, and by that time he was married with two young boys. Being a full-time student required sacrifices for the entire family, including a move across the state, renting a small home, Jane working the night shift as an LPN, a new school for children, and far too many casseroles. Bill graduated with distinction, and over the next many years, enjoyed the challenges of working at the Ford Motor Company and the Bureau of Engraving, not to mention starting his own engineering business. He was able to fully support Jane’s dream to become a registered nurse, and they were both able to happily retire in their mid- fifties. It was their desire to make the journey towards a mechanical engineering degree less arduous for other non-traditional students, so preference will be given first to full-time married students with children, second to married students without children, and third to non-traditional students pursuing a change in career. This scholarship is available to undergraduate students, and renewable if the student maintains a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The annual award is $2,700. Colten Wilson Donald and Ann Ritzinger Zittleman Scholarship Donald Arthur, B.S. 1955, M.S. 1956 and Ann Ritzinger Zittleman, 1955, met and married while attending Stout Institute. Don took time out of his college education to serve in Japan in the Army as a heavy machinery mechanic during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged and returned to Stout to finish his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Don taught in Allen Park, Mich. his entire career, where he helped to design the high school’s industrial arts program, which was then used as a pattern for other area schools. Ann worked in hospitals as a registered dietician throughout her career. She was also a member of the Board of the Michigan Dietetic Association and a nutrition spokesperson on local TV. As proud UW-Stout graduates, they rarely missed a class reunion, returning to Wisconsin each summer. Each was the first in their families to attend college, and they set an example for their children and grandchildren. This scholarship is for career-minded students at the undergraduate or graduate level in the areas of dietetics, technology education, engineering technology, or career and technical education. Applicants must have strong drive and financial need, a 3.0 GPA in their field, and participation in a professional organization of their field. They should also have demonstrated leadership potential as evidenced by participation in student or community activities. The annual awards are $3,000 each.
