Scholarship Award Process: The Stout University Foundation sponsors scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarships are financed by the contributions of alumni, friends, parents, faculty, campus organizations, other Stout staff, foundations, and corporations. To establish a permanent scholarship through bequests or special gifts, contact the Foundation office. All gifts given to the Stout University Foundation are tax deductible. The determination of receiving a scholarship is based on several factors. The factors which are considered include academic performance, letter of recommendation, professional and extracurricular activities, community involvement, written statements, spelling, grammar, and punctuation in the completing of the application and, in many cases, financial need. The scholarship application deadline for 2022-2023 academic year is February 7, 2022. The Stout University Foundation Scholarship Committee reviews applications with the award letters being sent by mid-April. Recipients are required to write a thank you letter of appreciation to the scholarship donors and will be informed of any other requirement that is needed before payment is made for tuition.

Scholarship information and application can be found at www.uwstout.edu/foundation/scholarships.

Annual and Endowed Scholarships

How to Establish a Scholarship: Receiving a scholarship can make a real difference as so many of our donors can attest to. For them, continuing the tradition of giving is the best way to say thank you to those who made their own education possible and to help pave the way for future generations. Establishing a scholarship or adding to an existing one are easy ways to make a difference in the lives of UW-Stout students.

Types of Scholarships: Annual scholarships

Are awarded on a yearly basis and maintained through yearly contributions. Benefactors establishing an annual scholarship will make the greatest impact by contributing a minimum of $1,000 annually. These scholarships continue only if the benefactor provides annual gifts to sustain them. Endowed scholarships These scholarships require a minimum gift of $30,000, which can be provided over multiple years. The Stout University Foundation invests these funds to support programs in perpetuity. The principal remains while the earnings of the endowment are used to support the scholarship. Scholarship endowments can be established in several ways. A single gift of cash, securities, or other property, or they may be funded with a series of gifts made over time. Also, you can fund an endowment through a bequest or other deferred gifts, or through a combination of lifetime and deferred gifts.

For additional information on how to establish a scholarship fund, please contact:

Foundation Scholarship Program

Thank you for all that you do and for impacting students’ lives in such a positive way.” -2021 Scholarship recipient

The Stout University Foundation Scholarship Program was established in 1963 and has helped more than 10,882 UW-Stout students achieve their dreams for a college education. Since its beginnings, the program has awarded scholarships totaling more than $15.6 million through the financial support of alumni, parents, faculty/staff, and friends of the university. This year we are happy to be able to award 436 students with scholarship money totaling more than approximately $977,000. The goals of the Stout University Foundation Scholarship Program have remained constant since its establishment: • To identify and honor academically talented students who need assistance in pursuit of their dream of a Stout education. • To provide increased support for their continued education. • To provide efficient and effective scholarship program management for the funds entrusted to the Foundation by our generous benefactors. For many students, the decision to attend college and which school to attend, comes down to finances. By building our scholarship funds, we can attract and retain excellent students with more competitive financial aid packages, make higher education accessible to students from all economic backgrounds, and promote geographic and cultural diversity to benefit all students. Stout University Foundation’s Scholarship Program continues to grow with new scholarships added each year. The exceptional support and generosity of its donors has laid the groundwork for what the program has become today – one of the finest regional university scholarship programs in the Midwest.

“Earning a scholarship does so much more than help me financially, it helps progress my academic future, make the most of my opportunities, and increase

my ability to change lives.” -2021 Scholarship recipient
