Annual and Endowed Scholarships

The Kitanah Kim Fairy Godmother Scholarship This scholarship is named for former UW-Stout student and Gender and Sexuality Alliance Officer Kitanah Kim, who lost her life in a car accident in 2008. Kitanah paved the way for LGBTQIA+ visibility and involvement on campus when she delighted the UW-Stout community with her candidacy for homecoming queen in October 2008. Kitanah will be remembered for her courage and vibrant drag persona. This scholarship is funded through the generosity of performers at UW- Stout’s annual professional drag show and awarded to a student advocate of color within the LGBTQIA+ community who demonstrates financial need. Recipients must be of sophomore, junior or senior standing and maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher. Thomas G. King Endowed Scholarship Thomas G. King was a UW-Stout graduate who founded the industrial arts department at Rhode Island College in 1959. Because of his love of music, his family established this scholarship in his name. This scholarship is designated for a student who demonstrates leadership and scholastic accomplishment in vocal or instrumentation. The annual award is $1,600. Sarah Durst Donald Kirby Technology Education Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established by Donald Kirby, a 1973 technology education graduate of UW-Stout. This scholarship supports technology education majors who will complete their student teaching experience during the term of the scholarship award. If there are no students who meet the student teaching criteria, then consideration will be given to incoming first-year students who are majoring in technology education. Don is a retired technology education teacher who greatly values technology education programs in middle and high schools. Don’s scholarship will help with moving, transportation and other expenses incurred during a student’s teaching assignment. The annual awards are $1,000 each for a senior.
