Annual and Endowed Scholarships

Larry A. and Mary E. Bates Endowed Scholarship Larry and Mary Bates of Medford, Wis. were the parents of David J. Bates, a 1976 UW-Stout graduate. This scholarship was founded to honor their persistent hard work and strong guidance to Dave in his pursuit of a university degree in the transportation field. Dave earned a B.S. in vocational education specializing in automotive and heavy truck from UW-Stout. This opened the door for technical careers as a heavy truck field engineer with Ford Motor Company and corporate aircraft ground support equipment manager with Northwest Airlines. Dave’s hobbies of restoring antique autos and aircraft were driven by his career opportunities. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or engineering technology with a concentration in mechanical design, with a 3.0 or above GPA and financial need. The annual award is $1,000. Grace Covey Ann Baggett Beaster Endowed Scholarship Bob Guertler met Ann Baggett Beaster and her husband, Bill, at UW-Stout, and they became lifelong friends. Bob established this scholarship in memory of Ann, who passed away in 1998, to acknowledge his friendship with the Beasters and assist current UW-Stout students. This scholarship is unrestricted. The annual awards are Frank and Betty Belisle Scholarship Frank Belisle was a former UW-Stout registrar, and both he and his wife, Betty, were enthusiastic supporters of UW-Stout’s educational and athletic programs. This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior vocational rehabilitation major who has definite financial need. The annual award is $800. Ashley Minikus Sonja Marie Bengtson Endowed Scholarship Sonja Marie Bengtson passed away two months after graduating from UW-Stout in 1999. The Bengtson family provided this scholarship in Sonja’s memory to assist UW-Stout students enrolled in an international exchange program. This scholarship is awarded to an apparel design and development major with financial need who is studying abroad. $1,400 each. Denise Beyer Genevieve Czaplewski
