2021 Scholarship Reception Booklet

Herbert Watanabe Annual Scholarship Herbert (Herb) Watanabe, 1950 technology education and 1958 vocational, technical and adult education graduate, established this scholarship in honor of the education he received from UW-Stout. Herb was encouraged to attend Stout by his shop teachers, many of which were Stout graduates that had a great influence on education in the state of Hawaii. While on campus, Herb was a member of the Kappa Phi Sigma fraternity, the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, a member of the college choir, Editor-in-Chief of The Tower yearbook, vice president of his senior class, and he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1977. Herb had a 50-year career, much of it as the principal of Technical Schools in Hawaii and served 12 years as an elected member of the Hawaii State Board of Education. This annual scholarship is for a student with financial need in any major. The annual awards are $1,000 each. Michael Hamilton Tanner Hornung Violette Parsons Weeks Endowed Scholarship Violette Parsons Weeks received a B.S. degree in home economics in 1930 and a M.S. degree in home economics education in 1941. She taught at Milwaukee Vocational School for more than 43 years. The scholarship is awarded to a student with financial need who is enrolled in dietetics, food science and technology, hotel, restaurant, and tourism management, human development and family studies, early childhood education, family and consumer sciences education, vocational rehabilitation, or pyschology majors. The annual award is $1,200. Madelyn Reiland Charles P. Wegner Memorial Scholarship Charles Wegner, a 1917 Stout graduate, taught industrial arts and mechanical drawing in Minnesota for 38 years. This scholarship is for a technology education major was established by his daughter and her husband, Caroline and Hank Tourville. The annual award is $300. Tyler Green
