2022 Scholarship Awards

Liz and Lou Klitzke Wellness Scholarship Lou and Liz were visionary advocates for personal and community wellness through mental, physical, spiritual, and nutritional well-being. They would be honored to promote personal and community wellness through this endowment to high potential UW Stout students. Lou was a great teacher and mentor to so many people. So much so that one of his students typified Lou’s impact on his life and road to success by pledging a significant sum of money to establish a UW Stout leadership academy. Liz led a UW education research grant to evaluate across the Wisconsin public school system the benefits of effective Industrial Technology education. Both Lou and Liz were avid long-distance runners. Liz also competed in many marathons, often placing first in her age group. In the mid 1970’s Lou’s middle son Paul displayed an aptitude and passion for distance running. Lou saw the potential of physical fitness/competition for young men/women to develop positive body, mental, and emotional self-esteem. He incorporated physical exercise and nutrition into his teaching and coaching. He served as Coach for the men’s and women’s cross country running programs and distance track from 1977 to 1987. He had the honor of coaching many gifted athletes and based on their response 30 years+ later he had a meaningful and lasting impact on their lives. His runners recall affectionately the spaghetti dinners Liz prepared for them. In 1997 Lou was inducted into the UW Stout athletic hall of fame. The annual awards are $500 each. Dennis and Marilyn Koepp “Striver” Endowed Scholarship Dennis Koepp envisioned a scholarship with several features, considerations, and goals that tend to stray from the traditional objectives of currently established scholarships. In essence, it seeks out and rewards individuals with backgrounds and circumstances mirroring the personal experiences and challenges that he experienced while attending Stout. It seeks to provide financial opportunity and assistance to a tenacious and highly motivated individual who falls short in academic excellence but excels in determination, dedication, hard work, and is extremely focused on academic and career goals. The annual award is $1,200 Michael Stanislawski Dalie Thomas Bailey Wekkin
