Scholarship Award Process: The Stout University Foundation sponsors scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students. Scholarships are financed by the contributions of alumni, friends, parents, faculty, campus organizations, other Stout staff, foundations, and corporations. To establish a permanent scholarship through bequests or special gifts, contact the Foundation office. All gifts given to the Stout University Foundation are tax deductible. The determination of receiving a scholarship is based on several factors. The factors which are considered include academic performance, letter of recommendation, professional and extracurricular activities, community involvement, written statements, spelling, grammar, and punctuation in the completing of the application and, in many cases, financial need. The scholarship application deadline for 2023-2024 academic year is February 6, 2023. The Stout University Foundation Scholarship Committee reviews applications with the award letters sent by mid-April. Recipients are required to write a thank you letter of appreciation to the scholarship donors and will be informed of any other requirement that is needed before payment is made for tuition.

Foundation Scholarship Program

I look forward to doing for others what you have done for me.” -2022 Scholarship recipient The Stout University Foundation Scholarship Program was established in 1963 and has helped more than 11,318 UW-Stout students achieve their dreams for a college education. Since its beginnings, the program has awarded scholarships totaling more than $16.5 million through the financial support from our generous donors. This year we are happy to award 531 students with scholarship money totaling more than $1.2 million. The goals of the Stout University Foundation Scholarship Program have remained constant since its establishment: • To identify and honor academically talented students who need assistance in pursuit of their dream of a Stout education. • To provide increased support for their continued education. • To provide efficient and effective scholarship program management for the funds entrusted to the Foundation by our generous donors. For many students, the decision to attend college and which school to attend, comes down to finances. By building our scholarship funds, we can attract and retain excellent students with more competitive financial aid packages, make higher education accessible to students from all economic backgrounds, and promote geographic and cultural diversity to benefit our Stout community. The Stout University Foundation’s Scholarship Program continues to grow with new scholarships added each year. The exceptional support and generosity of donors has laid the groundwork for what the program has become today – one of the finest university scholarship programs in the Midwest.

Stout University Foundation Scholarships

John Leon Abrams Memorial Endowed Scholarship Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity established this scholarship in memory of John Leon Abrams, a 1962 UW-Stout graduate and fraternity brother killed in Vietnam. He was a member of the Naval Seawolves Helicopter Squadron, an elite group formed specifically to assist SEAL and Special Forces. John and his three-man crew were killed in 1967 flying the lead helicopter while engaging ground forces in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time plastics engineering major with demonstrated financial need who exhibits leadership in student activities, and has U.S. military involvement. Advanced Molding Technologies Plastics Scholarship The Advanced Molding Technologies Plastics Scholarship was established to support incoming first-year students enrolled in the plastics engineering program, and to attract more students to the program. Plastics engineering graduates are highly desirable and important for the economic development in this region. The annual awards are $1,500 each. Helmuth “Pookie” Albrecht Endowed Scholarship Helmuth “Pookie” Albrecht graduated in 1960 from Stout State College with a B.S. in industrial education. He was the Stout Student Association president and received the Medallion Award, the highest non-academic honor for students. Pookie worked at the university for over 40 years in a variety of capacities, including director of University Housing and Student Life Services. He was also an adviser for several student organizations. After he retired, the university chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary was named for him. Pookie remained involved during retirement and helped establish the UW-Stout Hall of Heroes in the student center to honor students, faculty and staff who died while serving their country. In 2015, the Stout Student Association passed a resolution honoring Pookie’s contributions on campus and in the surrounding communities. Pookie’s exemplary contributions to students and the university is acknowledged by a scholarship awarded to a student demonstrating active leadership on campus. The annual award is $1,200. Tom Allen Student Leadership Scholarship Charles “Tom” Allen spent his professional career at UW-Stout in the department of psychology from 1970 until his retirement in 2008. Teaching was his passion, as was faculty government and curriculum development. He was recognized for his dedication to the democratic process and his efforts to get out the vote, particularly with UW-Stout students. The annual award is $1,000. Cody Gentz Alpha Phi Sorority Endowed Scholarship The Alpha Phi Sorority Endowed Scholarship was established through donations from alumni and active members of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi. This scholarship will help a sister by funding a positive educational experience and fulfilling her educational requirements. Alpha Phi assists women in making informed choices to reach their highest potential. Sisters share a strong commitment to excellence and a strong desire to help each another and their communities. Alpha Phi enhances and promotes each member’s development and learning by focusing on sisterhood, service, scholarship, love, loyalty, and character development. Alpha Phis are lifetime members of a sisterhood that values these traits. This scholarship is awarded to an active junior or senior member who has exhibited these traits through leadership and personal achievements while maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The annual award is $800. Gabriella Stone Alpha Sigma Alpha Endowed Scholarship This memorial scholarship was established by Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority sisters, friends, and family to honor the memory of Penny Radke, Lynette Beatty and Mary Baker Sabin. This scholarship will continue to be funded by future memorial gifts in honor of Beta Pi Chapter sisters. Recipients of this scholarship will have demonstrated leadership in an organization that supports women. The annual award is $400. Olivia Hile Alumni Association Graduate Student Scholarship This scholarship was established with endowed funds accrued from past collected dues of lifetime memberships of the Stout Alumni Association. Alumni Association Robert S. Swanson Fellowship At the time of his retirement, the Alumni Association named a fellowship in honor of Chancellor Robert Swanson. UW-Stout graduates may apply for this fellowship to pursue post graduate or research studies. The annual award is $1,000. Billie Jo Burgraff Alumni Association William “Bud” Micheels Undergraduate Student Scholarship In honor and memory of Emeritus President Bud Micheels, the Stout Alumni Association celebrates his life and dedication to the institution by providing funds in his name to an undergraduate student. The annual award is $1,000. Michelle Lahr Amcor Packaging Scholarship The Amcor Packaging Scholarship is dedicated to supporting and encouraging the educational pursuits of UW-Stout packaging students and investing in the future of the packaging industry. The annual award is $500. Sarah Kusnier American Edge Real Estate Services, Inc. Scholarship Emilie and Peter Wiese opened American Edge Real Estate Services, Inc. in Menomonie in 1989. Initially formed as a property management company, American Edge has developed into a full-service real estate company. This scholarship is unrestricted, The annual award is $500. Amanda Shipley American Foundry Society Scholarship This scholarship was initiated by the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Foundry Society for students in the engineering technology program who are members of the American Foundry Society student organization. The annual award is $1,000. Nathan Thompson

Russell and Lauretta Amling Scholarship The Russell and Lauretta Amling Scholarship is in appreciation of Russ’s 1966 UW-Stout M.S. in industrial education. This scholarship was established in gratitude of the opportunities afforded to Russ as a young student beginning his education and career. Russ credits the support and mentoring he received from his professors to his success at teaching industrial technology. This scholarship is awarded to any first-year student with a minimum 2.5 high school GPA and in financial need. The annual award is $500. Eve Folstad William and Dorothy Amthor Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established by William and Dorothy Amthor. William Amthor received his B.S. in industrial education from the Stout Institute in 1950 and went on to earn his Master of Science in 1955 from Stout State College, and later his doctorate from Texas A&M in 1965. He returned to Menomonie where he taught at UW-Stout for 34 years, retiring in 1989 as professor emeritus in the school of industry and technology in the graphic communications department. Professor Amthor established the first computer lab on campus and contributed to the university and the Menomonie community in numerous ways. The annual award is $1,200. Raymond Kulow Fanchon A. Johnson Amundson Endowed Memorial Scholarship Elden Amundson established this scholarship in honor and memory of his wife, Fanchon A. Johnson Amundson. She received a bachelor’s degree in home economics education from UW-Stout in 1938. This scholarship is awarded to an early childhood or family and consumer sciences education major. The annual awards are $1,100 each. Morgan Emmons Julia Stinson Andersen Corporation Plastics Engineering Scholarship Andersen Corporation supports the advancement and growth in enrollment within the UW-Stout plastics engineering curriculum, and continued graduation of plastics engineers within the St. Croix Valley area. The annual awards are $1,500 each.

Anderson Family Scholarship Margaret and Harold Anderson firmly believed in the power of education and provided each of their children a college education of their choice. Margaret loved every minute of her 40-year teaching career. The Anderson family, in memory of Margaret, now wish to extend their help to a student who is planning to become a PK-12 teacher. This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior education major from Wisconsin with a minimum GPA of 2.75. The annual award is $700. Payton Schneider This scholarship was established to assist students who have participated in Stoutward Bound or lived in a multicultural living community. Ron Anderson, 1988 business administration, along with his wife, Linda, are dedicated to supporting historically underrepresented students including African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics, Latinos and Native Americans. The Anderson family recognizes nonacademic support like Stoutward Bound and multicultural living communities connect students inside and outside of the classroom, helping to create the relationships that foster social and academic success. The annual awards are $1,000 each. Alejandro Calixto Martinez Emma Mandera Domonique Sturrup Angelina Garcia Makenna Moen Melvin LeRoy Anderson Scholarship Melvin “Pic” Anderson was a junior at Stout in 1942 when he joined the Marine Corps and served as a pilot in the Mid-Pacific during World War II. He died July 8, 1945, while in service. His wife, Maxine, established this unrestricted scholarship fund in his memory. The annual awards vary. Anonymous Donor Scholarship This scholarship was established by a UW-Stout graduate who understands the value of a university degree. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior construction major with an interest in commercial construction, a 3.3 GPA and a financial need. The annual award is $1,400. Jake Wagner Applied Math & Computer Science 50th Anniversary Endowed Scholarship The Applied Math & Computer Science 50th Anniversary Scholarship honors the foresight and success of the program. More than 10 programs and concentrations have spun-off from applied math and computer science since its inception in 1967. This scholarship was established from generous alumni contributions to honor the history of the applied math and computer science program and invest in its future. The annual award is $700. Lindsey Redepenning Applied Science Excellence Scholarship This scholarship was established through gifts from faculty and staff of the applied science program. This scholarship is awarded to an applied science major of sophomore standing or higher with a minimum GPA of 3.25 who demonstrates extraordinary involvement with the applied science program. The annual award is $1,000. Amanda Burger Margaret and Herman Arneson Memorial Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established in honor and memory of Margaret and Herman Arneson. Both believed strongly in the value of a college education, and in making a difference in the lives of people. Margaret taught at Menomonie High School for 20 years and Herman retired from UW-Stout’s biology department in 1976. He was a faculty member who loved UW-Stout, his subject matter, and his students. This scholarship is awarded to an applied science major with a 3.0 or higher GPA, with financial need, and demonstrates leadership in student or civic activities. The annual award is $2,500. Arzoumanian/Drake Endowed Scholarship Charlotte Drake, 1940, was Linda Luck Arzoumanian’s high school home economics teacher and special mentor. Drake recommended that Arzoumanian attend Stout State University upon her graduation from Baraboo High School. Combining her respect for Charlotte Drake and her commitment to higher education, Arzoumanian, who graduated from UW-Stout in 1964, has established this scholarship for a Baraboo High School graduate. The annual award is $1,250. Maya Brown Stowe N. Badenoch Memorial Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Professor Stowe “Tony” Badenoch who passed away August 14, 2012. Tony will be remembered for always infusing a tough yet engaging approach into his classes and encouraging students to meet high standards while remaining true to themselves. He was an adjunct instructor at UW-Stout in the early 1980s and from 1988 until his retirement in 2003, was a professor in the fashion merchandising program which later became retail merchandising and management. This scholarship will benefit retail merchandising and management majors. The annual award is $1,100. Addison Abrahamson Garrott and Dewey Barich Endowed Manufacturing Engineering Scholarship This scholarship was established by the family of Dewey and Garrott Barich, both UW-Stout graduates, in their memory. It is awarded to a junior or senior manufacturing engineering major with a 2.5 GPA and financial need. The annual award is $400. Levi Douty Elbert L. and Mary Elizabeth Barnhart Endowed Scholarship Elbert and Mary Elizabeth Barnhart established this scholarship to encourage young people to excel scholastically and become leaders in their communities and in their chosen professions. The scholarship recipient must be a junior or senior who has received the Chancellor’s Award at least three times and is involved in community and extracurricular activities and student professional organizations. The annual award is $900. Trisha Haugen

Larry A. and Mary E. Bates Endowed Scholarship Larry and Mary Bates of Medford, Wis. were the parents of David J. Bates, a 1976 UW-Stout graduate. This scholarship was founded to honor their persistent hard work and strong guidance to Dave in his pursuit of a university degree in the transportation field. Dave earned a B.S. in vocational education specializing in automotive and heavy truck from UW-Stout. This opened the door for technical careers as a heavy truck field engineer with Ford Motor Company and corporate aircraft ground support equipment manager with Northwest Airlines. Dave’s hobbies of restoring antique autos and aircraft were driven by his career opportunities. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or engineering technology with a concentration in mechanical design, with a 3.0 or above GPA and financial need. The annual award is $1,000. Bryce Ginter Ann Baggett Beaster Endowed Scholarship Bob Guertler met Ann Baggett Beaster and her husband, Bill, at UW-Stout, and they became lifelong friends. Bob established this scholarship in memory of Ann, who passed away in 1998, to acknowledge his friendship with the Beasters and assist current UW-Stout students. This scholarship is unrestricted. The annual awards are $1,500 each. Lindsey Phillips Tanner Thompson Frank and Betty Belisle Scholarship Frank Belisle was a former UW-Stout registrar, and both he and his wife, Betty, were enthusiastic supporters of UW-Stout’s educational and athletic programs. This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior vocational rehabilitation major who has definite financial need. The annual award is $1,200. Kelsey Ulrich Sonja Marie Bengtson Endowed Scholarship Sonja Marie Bengtson passed away two months after graduating from UW-Stout in 1999. The Bengtson family provided this scholarship in Sonja’s memory to assist UW-Stout students enrolled in an international exchange program. This scholarship is awarded to an apparel design and development major with financial need who is studying abroad.

Jim and Nancy Bensen Technology Education Scholarship The Jim and Nancy Bensen Technology Education Scholarship is offered to a first-year student entering the technology education program. Nancy earned her master’s degree from UW-Stout and served as the founder and director of the Adult Education Center for Chippewa Valley Technical College in Menomonie. Jim earned his master’s degree from UW-Stout, and after earning his doctorate, returned to Stout as a “distinguished professor”. He served four years as dean of the school of industry and technology. During this period enrollment tripled, innovation was inspired, program directors were established, “future courses” were taught, the Stout Technology Park was founded, the Stout incubator was created, and a vast extension of research and development was established. Jim left UW-Stout to serve as the president of the Dunwoody College of Technology and later president of Bemidji University. In retirement, he has been active in “re-inventing communities,” which has resulted in national recognition of excellence. The annual award Donald C. Beran Endowed Scholarship Donald Beran was a 1954 mechanical engineering graduate of UW-Stout. After graduation, he served in the Army and then joined the faculty of General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, Mich. This scholarship is awarded to a manufacturing engineering major of junior or above standing. The annual award is $800. Evan Zaves Mary Ann Beran Endowed Scholarship Mary Ann Beran graduated from the dietetics program at UW-Stout in 1954 and was the head dietitian at Genesee Memorial Hospital in Flint, Mich. until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the American Dietetics Association and supervised dietetic internships for many years. This scholarship is awarded to a dietetics major who will be completing a dietetic internship. The annual award is $800. Ilkay Baseski is $1,000. Cade Seep

Berg Family Memorial Scholarship This scholarship honors Roy A. Berg and Agnes Mihelich Berg, parents of Karen M. Williams and Michael S. Berg. Roy and Agnes grew up on the Minnesota Iron Range. Roy completed an engineering degree at the University of Minnesota and began work in the computer industry, which was in fledgling status when he started in the late 1940s. He spent his entire career in the computer industry in the Twin Cities. Throughout their lives, the Bergs valued education and encouraged their children and grandchildren to pursue and complete a college education. The donors wish to assist student recipients each year in achieving their goal of a college education. This scholarship is awarded to junior or senior engineering or vocational rehabilitation majors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need from the area known as the Iron Range of Minnesota. The annual award is $1,000. Carson Derousseau Dorothy Z. Bergman Endowed Scholarship Dorothy Z. Bergman, a 1939 Stout graduate, was employed by National Presto Industries in Eau Claire, Wis., where she was in charge of the test kitchens. This scholarship is awarded to a dietetics, food systems and technology, or food and nutritional sciences major. The annual award is $2,100. Casey Vagts Janice Henning Blake and George F. Blake Jr. Scholarship This scholarship was made possible through a bequest from the estate of George and Janice Henning Blake, a 1935 Stout graduate. This scholarship is awarded to a nutrition or food technology related major of sophomore standing or above. The annual award is $1,000. Emma Flemke Florence E. Blank Endowed Memorial Scholarship Bob and Kathy Campbell McCord, both UW-Stout graduates, established this scholarship because of their great respect for Florence Blank’s dedication, love of her profession and keen interest in her students. This scholarship is awarded to an early childhood major who is student teaching. The annual award is $1,600. Danielle Juris

Katherine and Brian Blankenburg Annual Scholarship Katherine’s father, Herman Arneson, joined UW-Stout as a Biology biology professor and her mother, Margaret, taught English classes on campus. Katherine’s fond memories of Stout include Saturday morning visits to the biology laboratory where her father prepared for the following week’s classes. She recalls, the many times he discussed students’ struggles to afford college, which subsequently resulted in him playing an instrumental role in starting the Stout University Foundation. Her life was impacted by UW-Stout through her parents’ love for the institution and the importance they placed on education. Katherine and Brian established this scholarship in recognition of the financial challenges many students face when attending college. The annual award is $2,500. Margaret Maahs Lynn Quadracci Blum and Dennis Blum Endowed Scholarship Lynn and Dennis Blum, both 1975 Stout graduates, have worked in retail sales for the past several years. Their scholarship supports a retail merchandising and management major of sophomore standing or above with a 3.0 or above GPA, who exhibits leadership qualities. The annual award is $300. Camryn Gettendorf The Bohle Family Early Childhood Education Scholarship Darlene E. Todd joined the faculty of the newly created art department in 1964. He knew and respected many art forms and encouraged his students and colleagues to do the same. Dominic J. Bordini and Janette Burns Bordini Endowed Memorial Scholarship This scholarship honors Dominic J. Bordini and his wife Janette Burns Bordini. Dominic Bordini was a 1941 graduate of UW-Stout who retired from the directorship of the Fox Valley Technical College shortly before his death in 1983. This scholarship assists Fox Valley Technical College students continuing their education at UW-Stout. The annual award is $500. Jason Hovarter Borton Construction, Inc. Endowed Construction Scholarship Fund Paul Borsheim graduated from UW-Stout in 1991 with a B.S. in industrial technology and a concentration in building construction. Paul started Borton Construction in La Crosse, Wis. in 1999. He and his wife Melissa, along with the leadership team at Borton Construction, support continued education in construction-related fields. Warren C. Bowlus Scholarship This scholarship was established to honor the years of service Warren C. Bowlus provided to the University of Wisconsin-Stout as chairperson and director of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics. This scholarship should be awarded to the student who shows the greatest promise to carry on the tradition of excellence demonstrated by Dr. Bowlus. The annual award is $4,000. Kenadi Poirier Bida Lou Braker Scholarship This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Bida Lou Braker to support UW-Stout students working toward a career in teaching. After the early death of her husband, Bida provided room and board to countless UW-Stout students, serving as a mother away from home. This scholarship is awarded to an education major of junior or above standing. The annual award is $700. Alexa Kupczak Donald R. Bredahl Memorial Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Donald Bredahl by his wife and children. Donald was given a scholarship and was therefore able to get his degree from UW-Stout in 1951. He taught industrial education for a few years and then went into manufacturing as a manager in the aerospace industry. This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior education major with financial need. The annual Jean Breisch Scholarship Jean Breisch was an instructor in the psychology department at UW-Stout who passed away in 1991. Teaching was her first priority, and she worked ceaselessly for the students. Walter and Evalyn Van Stratum Brinkman Scholarship Walter Brinkman graduated in 1915 and Evalyn Van Stratum Brinkman in 1918 from the Stout Institute. They both taught in the Chicago Area Public Schools. The Brinkmans established this endowment in 1982 in honor of their adopted daughter, Delores Brinkman. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage American multicultural students to have a positive experience inside and outside of the classroom. The annual awards are $1,400 each.

Bill and Julia Hierl Burmesch Supply Chain Scholarship Bill BS, 1972, MS 1980, and Julia Hierl Burmesch BS 1979, established this scholarship to provide financial assistance for students interested in pursuing careers in supply chain management and global logistics. While working in IBM’s globally integrated supply chain, Bill was aware of the importance and need for skilled supply chain professionals. He was the initial driving force in proposing and facilitating stakeholder input and the development of what is now the supply chain management program at UW-Stout. Criteria for the scholarship includes a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student with a 3.5 GPA and pursing or declared to pursue a supply chain management major. The annual award is $1,000. Bryce Kochendorfer Leo F. Buscaglia Scholarship Leo Buscaglia was a nationally known author, television personality and college professor. This scholarship is a result of earnings from his first television program produced at UW-Stout. It assists a student who demonstrates humanitarian concern. The annual award is $1,400. Michelle Luu Career and Technical Education Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a graduate student enrolled in the M.S. or Ed.S. career and technical education major. Priority is given to those presently employed in a Wisconsin technical college. The annual award is $800. Nicholas Endvick Alan J. and Ellen E. Carlson Scholarship Alan J. Carlson was a 1972 graduate of Stout State University with a B.S. in business administration, a minor in psychology and received an agriculture extended degree from UW-River Falls. Alan had a great love of conservation, nature, his community, and family. Alan served on the Stout Student Association as a senator on the Financial Affairs Committee representing married students. This scholarship is established by Alan’s wife, Ellen Carlson, to honor her husband. Ellen retired after 40 years of service in the departments of chemistry and physics as the academic department associate. While piloting an F-4 Phantom II on a bomb run in Quang Ngai Province, Republic of Vietnam, his aircraft received intense hostile ground fire, burst into flames and disintegrated in the air. Paul left behind his wife, Dorothy, and a son and daughter. The Chi Lambda/Paul Derby Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by his Chi Lambda brothers and the Derby Family to honor Paul’s sacrifice for his family, brothers and country. Michael and Sandra Wiemerslage Chopin Scholarship The Chopins met at UW-Stout where they received a valuable education that led to their lifelong dream of teaching. Sandy taught family and consumer education at Monona Grove Schools, and Mike taught in the automotive department at Madison Area Technical College. This scholarship is awarded to a Madison Area Technical College student who is transferring to UW-Stout and majoring in food science and technology, dietetics, hotel, restaurant, and tourism management, or technology education. The annual award is $1,000. Michael Schieldt Charles C. Coker Graduate Scholarship This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Charles Coker in his memory upon his death in August 2013. After a career in the Navy and obtaining his M.A. in clinical psychology and Ph.D. in experimental psychology, Chuck moved to Menomonie in 1975 to begin a position in the Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institution. Chuck retired from the university in 2000 after 25 years as a research scientist having written many grants, articles and reports, and working on numerous projects related to the field of vocational rehabilitation. In retirement, he founded Research Solutions International (RSI) with the mission of developing internet based program evaluation tools to assist rehabilitation organizations in improving the delivery of employment and social services to individuals with and without disabilities. This scholarship is awarded to a fulltime graduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.25 in the M.S. vocational rehabilitation program. The annual award is $1,000. Cheryl Mosley Patricia Coker Endowed Graduate Scholarship Patricia Coker, who died of cancer in 1991, was a woman of determination who taught until her illness made it impossible. He joined the faculty at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Mich. in 1958. After earning a doctorate degree in 1971, he returned to Kellogg. During his tenure at the college, he served as dean of instruction, vice president for research and development, and executive vice president. This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior,or senior with financial need majoring in technology education, career, technical education and training, or engineering technology. The annual award is $600. Morgan Arch John “Jed” Copham Memorial Scholarship UW-Stout’s hands-on approach to teaching and learning drew Jed to campus to pursue a degree in industrial technology. He graduated in 1997. The John ‘’Jed” Copham Memorial Scholarship is in memory of Jed who died in a swimming accident in 2018. Jed “Magic Hands” used his engineering skills to fix, build and improve just about anything. After selling the family business he helped build with his dad, Liberty Check Printers, his passion for motorsports was fulfilled when he purchased the Brainerd International Speedway (Brainerd, MN) in 2006. Timothy E. Crowell Family Memorial Scholarship Family and friends established this scholarship in honor and memory of Timothy Crowell, a 1986 UW-Stout graduate. Tim was employed for more than 20 years as a manager of plastic engineering with International Paper in Menomonee Falls,Wis. One of his biggest accomplishments was receiving a United States Design Patent for a container lid through his employer. He highly valued education and encouraged all those around him to continue pursuing their dreams through education. This scholarship has been created to provide financial support for students entering the field of plastics engineering so that they may also make their own contributions to this expanding field. Mary J. Crownhart Endowed Scholarship Mary J. Crownhart, a 1974 Stout graduate, died in 2002 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mary’s entire life was dedicated to serving and helping others. Through her estate plans, Mary created this scholarship for graduate students majoring in school counseling who are involved in professional and/or other organizations. The annual award is $1,000. Krista Matthews-Saugstad CSTEMM 3M Scholarship This scholarship was supported by 3M donations to the Fryklund Hall Campaign.
