2022 Scholarship Awards

Lawrence (Barney) and Joanne Hosford Styer Endowed Scholarship Fund Lawrence (Barney) Styer, industrial education, and Joanne Hosford Styer, dietetics, both 1954 graduates, established this scholarship in appreciation of the excellent education they received from UW-Stout. Larry and Joanne met at Menomonie High School, attended UW-Stout and were active in many campus activities as students. Joanne belonged to the Dietetics Club and Tri Sigma Sorority. Larry was vice president of his class his junior year and president his senior year, president of the Newman Club, belonged to the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity, managed both football and baseball teams and lettered in both. Larry served on the Alumni Association Board from 2003 to 2010. Joanne received the Distinguished Alumni award in 1989. Both has successful careers; Larry as a teacher and supervisor of the Automotive Trade Foundation for 35 years and Joanne in food and nutrition enterprise systems where she was involved in many national dietetic organizations, including state president of the American Dietetic Association, state president of the National School Lunch Association, active on national industrial advisory boards, and testified numerous times before congress. This scholarship is awarded annually to dietetics and engineering technology majors, dietetic majors in odd years and engineering technology majors in even years, who have at least a 2.5 GPA and are a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior standing with a preference to students who are legal residents of the United States. The annual award is $1,000. Grace Golla Gustave B. Swanson Technology Education Scholarship Graduating in 1952 with a B.S. in technology education and in 1957 with a M.S. in vocational education, Gus Swanson spent 30 years teaching industrial arts at both the high school and junior college level. He has established this scholarship to assist technology education majors. The annual awards are $1,500 each. Richard Fonk Cade Seep Benjamin Wendland
