2022 Scholarship Awards

Theodore C. Widder Jr. Endowed Scholarship Theodore “Ted” Widder served as a member of UW-Stout’s hospitality and tourism advisory committee in the early 1980s. UW-Stout faculty collaborated with him to design and produce the first microwave cookware for Plastics Inc., St. Paul, Minn., where he was president. Family and friends established this endowed scholarship in Ted’s memory for a sophomore or above hotel, restaurant and tourism management major with financial need. An essay on the art of management is required. The annual award is $600. Allegra Larson Ray Wigen Graduate Scholarship Ray Wigen was UW- Stout’s first dean of the graduate school and held that position until his retirement. At his death in 1982, this scholarship fund was established in his memory to aid Stout graduate students. The annual award is $200. Olivia Watzke Helen Willems-Whitbeck Endowed Scholarship Helen Willems was a 1941 graduate of Stout and received her master’s degree in 1954. She taught for many years, including 26 years in West Allis, Wis. This scholarship was established by Helen’s sister, Regina Willems, to provide financial support for worthy students with a major in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. The annual award is $500. Sofia Nelson Orvil and Dorothy Wilsey Engineering Endowed Scholarship Orvil graduated from UW-Stout in 1951 and worked in engineering during most of his career. He and his wife Dorothy established this endowment to encourage both men and women to enter the engineering field. This scholarship is awarded to a student from the Midwest with financial need pursuing an engineering degree at UW-Stout.
