Stout University Foundation Scholarships

Curtis E. Phillips Family Technology Education Scholarship This scholarship recognizes a family history of educators. Curtis Phillips graduated from Stout State College in 1958 and had a challenging teaching and administrative career in industrial and vocational education. His wife, Jo, is a former Menomonie resident and a strong advocate of education. Both of their daughters have teaching degrees. Curtis’ father graduated from the Stout Institute in 1926 and taught industrial education for 44 years. His mother was a home economics teacher for 30 years. Curtis’ sisters also earned degrees in teacher education. The Phillips family wishes to help the scholarship recipient be a successful educator with the desire and ability to make a difference in students’ lives. The scholarship is awarded to a senior technology education major with a GPA of 3.25 or above through the first semester of their junior year, including all coursework applicable to their degree,and who is active in student organizations and demonstrates leadership ability and submits the required essay. The annual award is $1,000. Trisha Haugen Phillips-Medisize Plastics Engineering Scholarship These scholarships are awarded to students in the plastics engineering program to support incoming first-year students and returning sophomores pursuing a plastics engineering degree. Plastics engineering graduates are highly desirable and are important for the economic development in this region. These scholarships were formed to attract more students to the program and educate students about Phillips-Medisize. The annual award is $500 for a freshman and $1,500 for a sophomore. Isaac Harnack Robert L. Pierce Scholarship Robert L. Pierce was a prominent Menomonie businessman and member of the State University Board of Regents at the time of his death in 1968. His widow established this unrestricted fund with memorial gifts from their many friends. The annual award is $100. Colby Johnson
