Networking - LinkedIn

LINKEDIN PROFILE TIPS

Pay attention to what you choose for a background image. Personalize it, but keep it professional!

Make sure your profile photo is just you! No group selfies.

As a student, it’s easy to use the headline to share what you are looking for.

Your summary should be your “elevator pitch” on who you are as a professional. You can write in first person!

Experience: List out any jobs, and co-ops you’ve had. Be sure to focus on transferable skills and proofread, just like you would for a resume.

Projects: These are easy to add to LinkedIn. You can attach a PDF, a URL, or other samples to job or school experience. Just make sure you have the okay to share!

Organizations and Companies: You can easily follow companies and professional organizations with LinkedIn. Not only does this help expand your network, but it will help you be a more knowledgeable and informed professional.

Networking: This is what LinkedIn was made for! Did you know every university has it’s own page, where you can search through alum? Type “UW-Stout” in the search bar, and explore where grads work, what fields they are in, and where they are located!

LinkedIn Learning: As a UW-Stout student, you can access training videos with other tips and tricks. Login through the MyApps Dashboard (myapps.uwstout.edu).
