Honors College Orientation Guide

Graduate Earn Your Stole!

To graduate from the Honors College, you need to be an active participant and collect eight Honors Points . These points are earned through Honors Courses, Honors Projects, Partner Programs, and Prior Learning. You can earn Honors Points throughout your career at Stout, and we will help you plan your own path to Honors graduation. You begin the journey by signing up for Honors Courses today! For each Honors Course you complete, you will earn one Honors Point.

COURSES Our courses let you explore a variety of subjects, alongside other curious Honors students. Honors courses are not harder, but they are more engaging. Our Honors instructors employ creative ways to help you learn. PARTNER PROGRAMS If you participate in Stoutward Bound, the McNair Scholars Program, any study abroad experience (including JUMPSTART: Scotland), or an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), we will credit you with an Honors Point for that experience. We are always looking for additional partnerships.

PROJECTS During your time here, you will complete at least one independent Honors Project. This is your opportunity to pursue almost any question, interest, or activity. Dive deeper. Get more hands on. Do something fun. Stretch yourself. PRIOR LEARNING Are you coming to Stout having already earned college credits? You may be eligible for 1 – 3 Prior Learning Points to compensate for Honors courses you won’t need to take. Come chat with our Honors Advisor or Director when you come to campus in the fall.
