My name is Deon Canon and I’m a first-generation college student. I double major in Professional Communication and Applied Social Science. I welcome you to your home away from home! The Stout Student Association (SSA), is Stout’s student governing body. Every year, students run and elect the SSA representatives that give us students a seat at the table on important decisions in our school administration, local, state and federal government. SSA is a valuable tool to be utilized when a concern needs to be addressed academically, non-academically or you just have an awesome idea that you think will make the campus better. I encourage you to stop by our office in room 118 of the MSC at any time.
The first few weeks of college can be frightening and homesickness can make you feel like college isn’t right for you. I want to let you know that you are not alone on this journey. You have peers, professors, staff, faculty and the SSA behind you that will help you succeed on this journey. Reach out if you’re having trouble as holding problems in will deeply impact you physically and mentally. Lastly, do not be afraid to make mistakes and try new things on this journey. The road to graduation may seem long, but the time comes very quickly where you will be graduating soon. You will have a lot of amazing memories and friends that you will make along the way and I hope you enjoy your time here at Stout. – President Canon

At the heart of your good health.
You don’t need to drink to fit in.
We are committed to promoting and maintaining a healthy campus and community. All enrolled Stout students are eligible to use Student Health Services.
54% of UW-Stout residence hall students don’t drink.
On some campuses, drinking is often part of the social life for students, but misuse of alcohol is a growing problem. If you choose to drink alcohol, you will impact yourself and other people; often these impacts are negative. UW-Stout takes an aggressive approach to underage drinking and alcohol abuse. There are financial and educational consequences for students who violate alcohol policies. If you come to UW-Stout, we want you to have fun and enjoy yourself, but you need to do this in responsible ways.
