Naomi De Lara, Gymnastics (2008-2011) She won four national titles — two on the balance beam, one on the vault and one in floor exercise — to go along with being named All-American five times and 2011 West Region Gymnast of the Year. She also won four conference titles. Daniel Drewek, Track & Field (2008-2012) He won seven pole vault conference titles, indoor and outdoor, and one conference title each in the decathlon and heptathlon. He was a seven-time All-American. Derek Hanson, Hockey (2006-2010) He set the school record for points with 140 and tied the record for assists with 80, including 26 power play goals. Named all-conference three times, he helped lead the Blue Devils to their first national tournament and Frozen Four appearances. Patrick Mengelkoch, Football (2007-2010) The Blue Devils’ all-time leader in receptions at tight end, he led the team in receiving for three straight seasons, was all conference three times and an All-American. John Miller, Swimming/Track & Field Coach (1982-1989) He coached 28 swimmers to 84 All-American honors, including four-time national champion Wendy Heineke, and 20 individual conference champions. He also coached nine women to conference titles in track and field. Tim Nelson, Track and Field/Cross Country (2008-2012) A seven-time All-American, he won national titles in cross country, track indoor and outdoor 5,000-meter and outdoor 10,000-meter. In the conference, he won five titles, was two time athlete of the year and scholar-athlete of the year. Erin O’Connell Anderson, Softball (2002-2005) An All-American and three-time all-conference, she led the nation and set school and conference records with 15 home runs in 2003. She also set a school record for fielding and helped the Blue Devils reach their first national tournament. Layne Pitt, Sports Information Director (1994-2022) Along with coordinating reporting on thousands of Blue Devil games, meets and matches and taking photos, he established the Blue Devils’ first website in 1996, first livestreaming and live stats, and first Athletics social media sites.
