AWARDS, HONORS, AND RECOGNITIONS Kathleen Thorn , Marketing/Business Education teacher at Colfax High School and UW-Stout alumnus, received the Wisconsin Association for Colleges of Teacher Education Early Career Education Award. This award recognizes an outstanding educator in the first three years of teaching who has made a positive impact on students. John Dickinsen , Science teacher at Colfax Middle School, received the Wisconsin Association for Colleges of Teacher Education Pre-Service Educator Award. This award recognizes an outstanding educator who has mentored pre-service teachers for at least five years and nurtured their development as teachers. Work done by School of Education faculty is receiving attention across the country. The College of St. Rose in Albany, New York, recently shared that they have adapted the dispositions developed by UW-Stout faculty and used in all UW-Stout teacher education programs. Assistant Professor Julienne Cuccio Slichko learned about them from Dr. Kevin Mason’s presentation at the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) in March 2022. She shared: “I wanted to reach out again and say thank you again for sharing all of your work on dispositions at AACTE in March…Over the summer I created self-paced modules for students to earn about the dispositions. We are so very grateful to your department for getting us started.” More information about the dispositions can be found online [link]. UPCOMING NOTABLE EVENTS September 30, 2022 Celebrating 100 years of Family and Consumer Science Education graduates! UW-Stout is celebrating FCSE alumni at the annual UW Stout Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Wisconsin DPI Child Care Conference [link] to be held on the UW-Stout campus. November 14, 2022 School of Education Teach Day This event will be held on campus for high school students interested in teaching as a career. UW-Stout students in the Art Education, Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Marketing and Business Education, Math Education, Special Education, and Technology Education programs will facilitate activities for high school students to learn about the pathway into teaching.
