School of Education Spring 2023 newsletter
Experiential Learning Opportunities for Students Marketing and Business Education students participated in the Wisconsin DECA State Development Conference held February 28 in Lake Geneva. Students served as judges and one was an intern, working in conference headquarters to learn about how the conference runs successfully. Marketing and Business Education students also volunteered or served as judges in the Minnesota DECA event and the Wisconsin FBLA State Leadership Conference this spring. Their participation helps prepare these future teachers to also serve as an advisor to one of these business-related career and technical student organizations (CTSOs). Family and Consumer Sciences Education students participated in the Wisconsin Association of Family & Consumer Sciences Conference March 2 and 3 in Onalaska. The students enjoyed the opportunity to network with alumni and other teachers from across the state. The Family and Consumer Sciences Education students also served as judges for the regional FCCLA STAR events competition held at UW-Stout February 15 and at the Wisconsin FCCLA State Leadership Conference April 3-5 in Wisconsin Dells, helping them learn about this CTSO and being a chapter adviser. Art Education students and alumni attended the National Art Education Conference in San Antonio, Texas April 13-15. The students were grateful for the scholarships that allowed them to attend and for the opportunity to engage with art teachers from around the country. Benjamin Schmitt, Technology Education student, represented UW-Stout in the April 22 WiSys Big Idea State Tournament. It is an entrepreneurship tournament open to undergraduate and graduate students attending any UW system school except UW-Madison.
