Region I DECA District Career Development Conference, January 7, 2023: This event is hosted by the UW-Stout Marketing and Business Education Association (MBEA) whose members are in the MBE teacher education program. Over 450 high school students from the region attended, competing in marketing and business events as well as networking with other students during social activities. Click here for additional information and interviews with participants. Opportunities for UW-Stout Education Students’ Professional Growth Five Marketing and Business Education students attended the October 2022 WEBIT Conference in Pewaukee, WI. Information about the conference and UW-Stout award recipients can be found online. Eight UW-Stout students attended the Phi Upsilon Omicron Conclave at The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, in October 2022. The students, representing UW-Stout’s Tau Chapter, received the Region 1 Professional Project Award and hosted an Expo table on how to prepare professional projects. Their advisor, Dr. Lindsay Barnhart, accepted the Florence Fallgatter Distinguished Service Award that was presented posthumously to Dr. Carolyn Barnhart, a former Tau Chapter advisor and UW-Stout faculty member. Phi Upsilon Omicron is an honor society for students in family and consumer sciences related degree programs and includes students from the Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Early Childhood Education, and Special Education programs. Addressing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion The School of Education and UW-Stout Office of Multicultural Student Services hosted The Blanket Exercise on November 21, 2022, the second year we offered this event for students. The 3-hour participatory event helped students and faculty participants understand the impacts of colonization on the indigenous people of Wisconsin and other tribes in the U.S. The exercise provided history of the Northwestern Wisconsin and Menomonie territory stewarded by, among others, the people of the Ho-Chunk Nation. This event provided a rich learning opportunity for students across campus as well as educator preparation students. Assistant Professor Terry Kohlmeier, Instructor Nicole Hajewski, and Director of Multicultural Student Services Mai Khou Xiong received a Chancellor’s Award that provided funding for the event.
Teach Day expanded to include nearly all undergraduate School of Education programs.
