The University of Wisconsin-Stout strives to provide a safe and secure learning and working environment for everyone involved in university activities. Children come into contact with UWS employees through various programs, camps, and events. On Dec. 19, 2011, the Governor signed Executive Order #54, which requires that all University of Wisconsin System (UWS) employees must report incidents of child abuse and neglect. Who? All University of Wisconsin System (UWS) employees (this includes all UWStout employees, volunteers and contractors regardless of appointment type or method of compensation) must immediately report child abuse or neglect if, in the course of employment, a UWS employee: EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS What are my employment rights? As a campus employee you have the following rights: • You have the right to equal opportunity employment without regard to color, creed, sex, age, or handicap. • You have the right to appeal grievances. You may contact the Financial Aid Office about an employee grievance if you and your supervisor can not resolve it. • You have the right to work free of threat, racism, or sexual harassment. Common Questions: What is sexual harassment? Sexual harassment is any unwanted or unwelcome sexual attention or sexual expression that makes the person who experiences it uncomfortable in the workplace. How do sexual harassment policies apply to my behavior? Sexual harassment is a crime. You should treat your co-workers with the same respect you would expect from them. What describes other harassment? Any unwanted or unwelcome attention, actions, or expression that make the person who experiences it uncomfortable in the workplace. What should I do if I feel I’m being harassed? Notify your supervisor immediately. You may also contact the campus Affirmative Action Officer or the University Counseling Center for advisement. • Observes an incident or threat of child abuse or neglect, or • Learns of an incident or threat of child abuse or neglect and has reasonable cause to believe that child abuse or neglect has occurred or will occur.
