Onward! Career and Technical Education Doctoral Dr. Mooney has been a member of the faculty at UW-Stout since 1988. While at UW-Stout, she has served as a professor and program director for the B.S. in marketing education and graduate M.S., Ed. S., and Ed.D.career and technical education programs Carol led the research, design, and development of UW-Stout’s first doctoral program, a doctor of education in career and technical education that was successfully launched in the fall of 2014. The Inaugural Cohort has initiated this scholarship in honor of her years of dedicated service and leadership that went above and beyond the call of duty. Carol is an amazing mentor and advocate for students. Whether it is by phone or in-person, Carol is an attentive listener and genuine supporter. Her signature closing remark is an enthusiastic “Onward!” Every cause has a champion, and we want to recognize our champion of the UW-Stout Ed. D. in CTE – Dr. Carol T. Mooney. This scholarship is for a graduate student who is pursuing a doctor of education degree in the career and education program, with a 3.25 GPA, and can demonstrate engagement within the doctoral program, team work, and collegiality within the doctoral program and professional organization. The annual award is $1,000. Angela Blossom Tom Onken Memorial Endowed Scholarship Tom grew up in Neenah, Wis. He was a graduate of Neenah High School and a 1982 UW-Stout graduate with a degree in hotel, restaurant and tourism management. Near the end of his senior year, Tom was recruited by Marriott International. His first position was as assistant housekeeping manager in Kansas City, Mo. During his 38-year career with Marriott, Tom held a variety of positions before moving into Marriott leadership. From 2007-2018, Tom was senior vice president, lodging development of the Eastern region before being promoted to chief franchising officer for the U.S. As CFO, he was responsible for continuing to build and maintain strong relationships with franchisees in over 4,000 hotels. Tom passed away in January 2021. Tom will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor, smart aleck jokes, and entertaining stories. He spoke often of the valuable lessons he learned at UW Stout, and the lifelong friendships he made. Tom’s family established this memorial scholarship to assist hard-working hospitality students to become the industry’s leaders and mentors of the future. The annual award is $2,000. Tayla Spiegel
